The Refresh Student Council Hopes to Make a Good StartInterview with Student President Lee In-gil, and Vice-President Lee Hyeon-seung.

Are you enjoying the new semester? A new semester always begins with lots of excitement, new hopes and some anxiousness. I'm very excited about my new semester. Some must be wondering about our student council. I had a chance to interview them.

Q. Please introduce yourself.

In-gil: Hello. My name is Lee in-gil. I was elected President of the Student Council. I was born in Incheon in 1989, and I graduated from Jin High School in Busan in 2007. Afterwards, I entered the Dept of Biology at CWNU in 2008, and I served in the artillery brigade in the ROK army. I was the head of the Planning Department of Job Welfare, and vice-president of the Natural Science College.

Hyeon-seung: My name is Lee Hyeon-seung. Nice to meet you. My major is Mechanical Engineering. I was born in Masan in 1992. I graduated from Je-il High School in 2010. I entered the Dept of Mechanical Engineering at CWNU in 2011. I was in General Affairs in the Dept of Mechanical Engineering and I was head of the Data Processing Department. Lastly, I served as Student President in the Dept of Mechanical Engineering in 2013.

Q. What does the name of the student council mean?

Hyeon-seung: It means providing what students need. It is like the Function 5 key on your personal computer. We ordinarily call this ¡°F5¡±. F5 seems simple but it suggests deeper meanings. It is made up of five words - Family, Fair, Fit, Fun and Feel.

Q. What is the difference from the last student council?

In-gil: The previous student council was very good, but we can do better. The strength of the Refresh student council is that we are fun and recognizable. It is important to get information, such as transparency of funds, but we are also a fun student council. I think harmony among students is most important.

Q. What were your election promises, and how do you plan to fulfill them?

In-gil: Firstly, we plan to push forward a cross-country with another university in Gyeongnam. We have a big budget to achieve this. Secondly, we plan to construct a new course registration system. We will do it next semester. With this system, students will be more comfortable registering for courses. Thirdly, we plan to hold monthly events for students, such as giving presents to those wearing school uniforms on April Fools' Day. We will prepare fun events. Finally, we will improve outworn equipment at every university site. Thus, we will improve the study environment.

Q. What do you think are the most important student needs?

Hyeon-seung: A big problem concerns emotional problems. Students need to have fun and be refreshed. Unfortunately, many students¡¯ unhappiness is due to harsh realities. As a student, the most important duty is to study hard. However, the university should also offer some fun.

Q. Are there any last words?

In-gil: People say a good start is half the battle. Make a good start with the Refresh student council. Thank you.
