Wrapping Up 2020: The Story of the International Student Council
¡ã CWNU International Student Council

The second semester of 2020 is coming to an end. It was a year when COVID-19 had a large impact on university life and daily life. However, even in difficult circumstances, all the students of Changwon National University are making efforts to pursue their goals. The International Student Council of Changwon National University holds various activities where Korean and foreign students can gather together to develop a multicultural university life. The International Student Council has had major changes due to the constraints of COVID-19, so what will its activities look like going forward?

The International Student Council supports foreign students attending Changwon National University to help them enjoy school life. It is an organization affiliated with the Institute for International Exchange that strives to create a global campus and promote students' multicultural perspectives. The International Student Council does this by providing a venue for exchanges between Korean students and international students.

Before COVID-19, There were indoor and outdoor activities that both foreign students and Korean students could participate in and enjoy together. For example, there was ‘Student's Night’ where international students gather together to vent their thoughts about school life, the 'Global Sports Festival' where Korean and foreign students gathered together to form teams and enjoy playing sports together, ‘Global Expo’ where students could experience the cultures of various countries, and ‘The Buddy Program’, which could further enhance the closeness of Korean students and foreign students.

However, the direction of the International Student Council's activities has greatly changed. This year, they focused on activities to help foreign students adapt well to the changes in school life by trying to understand the difficulties that foreign students have to face while adapting to school life. The International Student Council conducted a survey with foreign students to find out what information they needed to help these students. Based on that information, the International Student Council uploaded videos on YouTube that could provide practical help to international students, such as how to use Waggle and Zoom, and continued holding activities online despite COVID-19. Currently, their uploaded videos include ‘How to use CWNU Online Class (Waggle, e-class, Teams, Zoom)’, and ‘How to enjoy CWNU Dormitory Life’. In the future, videos such as how to use the library and how to use the dormitory facilities will also be uploaded. (YouTube Channel Link: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCds23kZH_fMSqY8YpjPuoGg)

Song Min-kyung, president of the International Student Council, said, "Thank you to the International Student Council’s members, Kang Ji-min, Kim Min-ju, Park Geun-woo, Bae Ye-jin, Lee Da-sol, Lee So-yi, Lee Chan, and Jung Soo-kyung who worked so hard this past year. Thanks to the International Student Council’s members, I was able to successfully carry out the activities of the International Student Council. The future of the group events is uncertain due to COVID-19. However, our International Student Council is planning various activities, both online and offline, so please continue to stay involved. We will be recruiting the third International Student Council to work with us next year in December or January. So if you want to work with us, please send your support."

The International Student Council of Changwon National University is working on the multicultural development of Changwon National University with a variety of activities. I hope that Changwon National University’s students will wrap up this year’s college life well, and that they will continue to stay involved with the International Student Council next year.
