Put yourself in disabled people's shoes
The student is experiencing visual impairment.
Dept. of Special Education (S.E.) includes undergraduates and graduates in our school. On April 16th and 20th, the Rehabilitation Facility for the Handicapped in Gyeongnam, and the Disabled Association of Gyeongnam held an event named ¡®the 12th annual Walking Together¡¯ to celebrate ¡®The 31st Day for the Disabled' (on April 20th). The purpose of holding this event was to increase interest about the disabled and to change our perception of them. On April 16th, Dept. of S.E. held the Experience of Disabilities Event for citizens in front of the Jung Woo shopping arcade. And On April 20th, students of S.E., disabled children, ¡®Gyeongnam Primo Ensemble¡¯ and the Phoenix presented a variety of performances in the auditorium on main floor of Building 85 at 7:30 p.m.

The Experience of Disabilities Event included many kinds of experiences of disabilities which citizens could experience personally. There were many experiences related to visual impairment, including Visual Sense Coordination disability, Tunnel Vision, cane use, etc. Other experiences included sign language, experiments with walking on crutches, and using wheelchairs. Experiences most people participated in were cane, wheelchair, and crutches. The things I experienced were Sign language, Tunnel Vision, and Visual Sense Coordination disability. I could see only a narrow view when I experienced Tunnel Vision. And I learned that it is hard to experience this disability. After participating in those activities myself, I appreciated the fact that I have a healthy body. And I could begin to understand the difficulties of the disabled.

And in the event on April 20th, there were various performances. First, the event opened with some images made by a club named ¡®Comeasy¡¯ from the Dept. of S.E. And the performances began with members of the ¡®Exciting culture class¡¯ who were disabled children. They were able to emulate non-disabled children. Second, there were some sign language performances by university students from each grade, and a sign language club from Jinhae Girl¡¯s High School. Also, members of ¡®Hatbitjari¡¯ in the Dept. of S.E. played the guitar. I admired the sign language performance. The performance looked so wonderful. Besides, there were some invitational performances by ¡®Gyeongnam Primo Ensemble¡¯ and the Phoenix cheering club from our school. Lastly, ¡®Dumedujack¡¯ from the Dept. of S.E. completed this event, performing sign language and singing a song.

After that, I thought that the disabled are not so different from the non-disabled, though they have a little more difficulty living than us. I hope such events help to change others' perceptions of the disabled now and for ever.
