According to IIE (Institute of International Education)’s Gaining an Employment Edge study, over 70% of students with overseas training experience reported that it significantly helped them develop intercultural skills, flexibility and adaptability, self- awareness, curiosity, and confidence. In this way, overseas training offers students the opportunity to gain career- related experience abroad, while fostering personal growth.

CWNU offers a variety of overseas training opportunities to its students. The 'Global Marketer Training Program,' organized by the Leading University for Industry Cooperation (LINC 3.0) Project Group at CWNU, aims to foster and support global small and medium- sized enterprises through collaborative industry- academia partnerships. It seeks to enhance students' employment and entrepreneurial skills while cultivating talents that can lead the local industry. The 'Language Training program,’ managed by the Office of International Affairs at CWNU, allows students to participate in educational courses at overseas partner universities during the vacation period, earning credits for the summer or winter term. It aims to enhance students' language skills and foster a global mindset.

Although Kim Joo-yeon had no overseas experience related to her major during her three years of university life, she discovered the '2024 Global Marketer Training Program' offered by the LINC 3.0 Project Group at CWNU, which gave her the opportunity to gain international experience. Kim stated, “I applied for the Global Marketer Training Program because I believed it would be a great opportunity and experience for me.” She left for Dubai, United Arab Emirates, from September 29 to October 5, for the 'UAE Water Resources and Environmental Technology Exhibition.'

During the five- day journey, Kim gained a lot. "I was able to see and learn about the latest technologies and trends in water treatment and environmental technology from various countries and companies. I often struggled to speak due to worries about English grammar and the judgment of those around me when communicating with foreigners, but this training has given me the confidence to overcome those fears. Chae Jong-in, the student council president of the Department of International Relations, hopes to become a flight attendant. To achieve his dreams, he participated in the summer language training program organized by the Office of International Affairs at CWNU to improve his English skills and gain experience living abroad. Additionally, he mentioned that, since English is an international language, he wanted to learn the language to help foreign students in his department participate in departmental events.

Preparing for the language training program required several steps. He had to prepare a letter of self- introduction and manage his grades in advance, as the previous semester's grades would be considered. He could also earn extra points through language scores and participation points from programs organized by the Office of International Affairs at CWNU. Chae explained that he participated in the TOEIC Speaking section of the English Improvement Program last year in the second semester, which allowed him to earn additional language scores and points from the program.

It was a tour that went around the falls, and it seemed like a scene from a movie. Additionally, I made friends with a student from Istanbul, Türkiye, during the language training program. As a result, I remember giving a speaking presentation in English on the Sultan Ahmet Mosque for a class about world landmarks."

Chae said that through this language training program, he not only improved his language skills but also formed valuable connections. He said, "I actually had no confidence in my English skills at all. While I still don't fully understand everything in English, I believe my abilities have improved significantly after living there for two months," reflecting on his growth through the language training program. Lastly, Chae shared some advice he would like to give to students. "I tried to limit contact with friends and family in Korea during the training period, and I made an effort to get close to the international students. I think I did this because I felt like time was precious. When you go abroad, you realize the need for survival. When I felt physically uncomfortable or mentally challenged, I had to use English to find comfort. Through this process, my English skills improved naturally. Among the eight students who went on the language training program with me, I originally had the weakest English skills, but when asked who improved the most, everyone pointed to me. If possible, I recommend going on a language training program at a younger age."

The experience of studying abroad not only enhances language skills but also provides various opportunities for growth, including strengthening business competencies, boosting confidence, and fostering independence. The stories of the two students carry greater significance, as they represent not just simple overseas experiences but the ability to achieve both learning and personal growth through their overseas training programs. This demonstrates that the overseas training programs provided by CWNU offer substantial support for students' growth and development.
