¡ã The Job Festa held at the CWNU gymnasium on September 11th |
On September 11th, Changwon National University (CWNU) held its first large-scale job fair, the '2024 Job Festa,' at the university gymnasium. Organized by the university's Human Resource Development Center, the event aimed to provide various job information and opportunities not only to its own students and graduates, but also to students from other regional universities and young job seekers. While CWNU has previously hosted smaller-scale job events focused on mentoring booths, this was the first time it held a large-scale job fair with participation from external companies and organizations. The actual number of attendees far exceeded the expected 2,000, reaching over 3,000, reflecting the intense enthusiasm for job opportunities.
A total of 41 companies and organizations participated in the job fair, which was divided into three zones: 'Corporate Recruitment Zone,' 'Public Institution Zone,' and 'Job Counseling Zone.' In the 'Corporate Recruitment Zone,' 23 local companies, including Hanwha Aerospace and Hyosung Heavy Industries, conducted recruitment consultations and on-site interviews. The 'Public Institution Zone' featured 8 public institutions, such as Korea Electric Power Corporation (KEPCO) and Korea SMEs & Startups Agency (KOSME), providing job information and consultations. KEPCO and Hanwha Aerospace also held separate recruitment information sessions to answer questions from job seekers. In the 'Job Counseling Zone,' 10 alumni of CWNU, who are currently working at companies like NH Nonghyup Bank and Korea Airports Corporation served as mentors, by providing personalized advice, and sharing their vivid job experiences and technical know-how with their juniors. Additionally, various side events such as a job-related quiz game, personal color diagnosis, food trucks, and a stamp event were held to further add enjoyment for attendees.
The participating companies and organizations were carefully selected based on their strong ties with CWNU, active engagement in recommendation-based hiring, keen interest in student recruitment, and some of our alumni who have successfully found jobs through the Human Resource Development Center's programs. Many students who attended the fair expressed positive feedback, saying things like, "It was a great opportunity to gain valuable experience" and "It was helpful to learn so much information in advance." However, some students also voiced their disappointment that the majority of participating companies were manufacturing-based due to the industrial characteristics of the Changwon region, limiting the diversity of options for students in humanities and social sciences.
Regarding this, a representative from the Human Resource Development Center explained, "Since we focused on inviting local companies, the proportion of manufacturing companies inevitably increased." However, she also pointed out, "Among the participating companies, some were looking to hire talents from various fields regardless of their majors, and public institutions had a higher proportion of administrative positions, providing ample opportunities for students in humanities and social sciences." She further added, "We will make greater efforts to ensure a wider variety of participating companies for students in humanities and social sciences in the future."
As part of these efforts, the Job Festa, which was thoroughly prepared, concluded successfully. The Human Resource Development Center plans to conduct a satisfaction survey among the participants and utilize the results to further enhance the quality of its future career support programs. Moreover, the center intends to develop customized job programs tailored to the local industries through collaboration with the community and companies, while continuing its efforts to strengthen the employment capabilities of young people. Starting with this job fair, CWNU has pledged to become a reliable supporter for the successful employment of local youth through continuous program improvement and diverse career support initiatives.
In addition to organizing large-scale job fairs like 'Job Festa,' CWNU's Human Resource Development Center operates over 20 diverse programs annually to support students' successful employment. The center offers personalized support, ranging from career planning to skill development and career counseling. A representative from the center stated, "We run various programs, including monthly career camps, long-term career management programs, and short-term skill enhancement programs. Career counseling is available anytime, regardless of whether it's during the semester or vacation period. We encourage students who have concerns about their career or employment to visit the Human Resource Development Center and talk to our professional counselors." It is with hope that CWNU students continue to utilize the Human Resource Center to find assistance in their employment journey.
