Around CWNU, boasting a beautiful natural environment centered around Jeongbyeong mountain, spring brings not only students but also citizens of Changwon out to enjoy the beauty of nature. CWNU has a hidden gem where one can enjoy the blooming cherry blossoms, and it’s called “Sanesan.” In this article, we’d like to introduce Sanesan, a special place where you can enjoy cherry blossoms and reminisce over a glass of makgeolli.

Across from Sarim Student Hall, between the Cooperative Laboratory (Building 7) and the Industry- Academia Cooperation Building (Building 81), there is a path leading up to the mountain. As you ascend this path, you'll come across a small sign indicating the entrance to Sanesan. Formerly known as "Waryong," Sanesan has been a familiar place among students for many years, with the name having been changed to its current form since 2022. During spring, when cherry blossoms bloom and the weather warms up, visitors flock to Sanesan, attracted by its serene atmosphere. Most of Sanesan's seating consists of outdoor tables, and it always bustles with people enjoying delicious food against the backdrop of beautiful, natural scenery.

Having a makgeolli restaurant within the campus grounds holds special significance for both students and residents living around the campus. Son Jun- hyung, a student from the Department of Architecture, shared his thoughts on what makes Sanesan unique: "Being located inside the campus makes it convenient for friends to gather and visit without the need to travel far. It feels accessible." He added, "It's rare to find such a hometown- likeness and natural atmosphere near urban areas. You usually have to go to the outskirts to experience it, so having such a place within the school grounds feels special." In addition, he mentioned, "Due to the nature of our department, there is frequent interaction between students in the same class and professors. I've had experiences where professors took students to Sanesan. Enjoying makgeolli and pajeon together helped build camaraderie and unity among us." Shin Mi- sook, who resides in Sarim- dong and has visited Sanesan, shared, "I've heard about the makgeolli restaurant inside CWNU for a while. When cherry blossoms bloom in spring, the surrounding scenery is beautiful, so I occasionally visit with friends and acquaintances." She added, "I haven't been able to visit yet this year, but I hope to do so soon." Sanesan is considered a special place not only for its location and atmosphere but also for fostering a sense of camaraderie among people.

At Sanesan, you can enjoy a variety of dishes such as kalguksu (knife- cut noodles), pajeon (green onion pancake), and boiled pork slides alongside makgeolli. A student of the Department of English Language and Literature, Kim Shin- hyung, recommends, "Among the diverse menu options at Sanesan, I highly recommend the seafood pajeon and kalguksu. These dishes pair perfectly with makgeolli and are so delicious that I find myself coming back for them every time." Son Jun- hyung noted, "The most popular dishes among students seem to be the seafood pajeon and bibim noodles. Even if you haven't visited Sanesan yet, the breathtaking scenery around it makes any menu option satisfying."

Sanesan, located within the campus, is not only a special place for students but also a hidden gem for the citizens of Changwon. Oh Jeong- ah, a graduate of CWNU, reminisced, "Although I rarely have the opportunity to visit now that I've graduated, memories of visiting Sanesan with friends during my college days still linger. As the cherry blossoms bloom, I would love to visit again with my friends, enjoy the flowers, and savor a glass of makgeolli." Sanesan operates from 11 a.m. until 6 p.m. or 8 p.m., depending on the fluctuation of visitors. It's a place where you can not only enjoy the full bloom of cherry blossoms in spring, but also indulge in delicious food and beautiful scenery throughout the year. Especially now that the weather is getting warmer, we hope students who haven't visited Sanesan yet will take the opportunity to create wonderful memories with friends and loved ones.
