Different Forms of Exercise to Promote Good Health

People are living in COVID-19 world. COVID-19 has made many people more interested and invested in healthcare. There are many people who want to take care of their health, and there are many different ways to do it. It is not difficult to find people who are managing their diet and exercising. There are many people who go to the gym or do home training. In addition, people of all ages, regardless of age or sex, do Pilates or do Flying Yoga. So, what kind of sports and athletic activities do the students of Changwon National University do?

Weight Training & Home Training: Kim Ki-meoyng, Department of Chemistry

Weight training is a very familiar exercise. The three most commonly known three exercises are bench presses, deadlifts, and squats. The advantage of weight training is that it’s perfect for bodybuilding. In addition, if diet management and weight training are combined, health and athletic performance will improve even more. Also, weight-training equipment is easily accessible to beginners, at the gym or at home. Unfortunately, gyms have been closed due to COVID-19, so I can’t do my normal gym routine. I’ve tried to stay physically active by doing some home training. My home training consists of following the work-out routines of fitness YouTubers. Personally, doing this has been harder than weight training. The breaks are shorter and I have to move constantly. I think home training is the best way to lose fat.

Pilates: Park Na-won, Department of International Trade

Pilates is a strength stretching exercise designed by Joseph Pilates for the treatment of injured soldiers during the First World War. I started Pilates to improve my posture and lengthen my spine. While doing Pilates, I lost weight, and I got help in correcting my posture. I think everyone should do Pilates. It helps to correct problems with a slouched neck, so it is really helpful to modern people. Pilates can relieve pain around the neck. Pilates exercises help stretch the entire body, so people can feel refreshed. Also, Pilates is a rehabilitation exercise, not just a strengthening exercise. So it actually helps with herniated disks and joint problems. Some basic Pilates workouts include the hundred and teaser exercises. Hundred and teaser exercises focus on the waist and core muscles. One downside of Pilates is that it's expensive compared to other fitness classes. It was really expensive in the past, but the barrier to entry has been lowered as many people have been trying Pilates recently. Usually there are 1:1, 1:2, 1:4, 1:6, and 1:8 classes. The more people in a class the cheaper the cost, but it is an average of 30,000 won per class.

Flying Yoga: Lim Jin-a, Assistant at the Department of International Trade

Flying Yoga incorporates a hammock into yoga exercises to make yoga positions easier to do. In English, it's called aerial yoga. Typical positions are fly, low fly, and inside fly. Unlike regular yoga, flying yoga is attractive because it has a graceful and beautiful pose. In addition, it can strengthen whole-body muscle strength, prevent leg swelling, align the spine, increase joint mobility, and increase flexibility. Also, it stimulates lymphatic vessels and blood vessels to help blood circulation and body circulation. Women can benefit from flying yoga if they have problems with swelling legs. Flying yoga also lends itself to great photos. These days, many men are also taking flying yoga classes. Unfortunately, people with high blood pressure, poor wrist joints, or herniated disks shouldn’t try this form of exercise. Since this exercise is done in the air, be careful not to fall off.
