Life of A Top-Class Archer.

On April 22, 2019, The National Men and Women Archery Championship was held. Let's interview Lim Hae-jin, who won the bronze medal in the 60m and 50m at The National Men and Women Archery Championships.

Q : Could you introduce yourself?

I am Lim Hae Jin, 25 years old, attending the physical education department of Changwon University. I have no worries about the future because I have a positive personality. Also, I am confident that if I do my best in the present, I will have a chance in the future. I'm from Gyeonggi-do. So, I started as the Gyeonggi-do archery representative, and then the South Chungcheong-do archery representative in Cheongju and now I'm the South Gyeongsang-do archery representative. I was in a corporate-backed professional team and came to Changwon University because of my eagerness to learn. It sounds funny, but my hobby was studying because I couldn't drink and smoke. I'm interest in learning everything, so I am attending Changwon University.

Q : How did you do well in The National Men and Women Archery Championship?

As I prepared for this competition, I practiced like a real game. So I think I was able to achieve excellent results. I have a lot of tension and psychological anxiety ordinarily. To overcome it, I thought the practice was a real game and repeated it over and over. If I fail to hit the first shot, I'm very anxious, but I have to shoot the next bow. Whenever I think “what I can do now?” that attitude made me do my best, so I think I improved my score.

Q : How much training do you usually do?

I usually start exercising at 8:40 a.m. and train until 12 p.m., except for lunch and dinner time. My training time sometimes went past 12 o'clock because I had a university class in between. With the current director's consideration, I can rest whenever. But I train more because I want to keep doing well. Also, during vacation, I do basic muscle and aerobic exercises for more than 4 to 5 hours a day. And I have asthma. So I don't drink alcohol or coffee. Thanks to asthma, I'm taking better care of myself.

Q : Have you ever wanted to give up your archery career?

At first, I wanted to give up when I got asthma at 20 years-old. But I overcame asthma quickly because there was a sure way to treat it. Also I worried whether I should continue archery as an adult because archery is a short-lived sport. In particular, When I was a member of a corporate-backed professional team, and I had a lot of worries. My team was first and second in the country. But, I felt burdened because all members except myself were national team players. I was worried about whether I could do better in the future.

Q : What are your goals in life and archery?

My goal as an archer is to win several medals in every competition. Also, my big goal is to join an professional team that can help me grow. But I don't know which professional team fits me. If all the professional teams watch and scout me at the National Sports Festival, I will think seriously about it. If I give up archery, I want to have a job as an educator. I will go to graduate school and aim for a teacher or professor. Because I like to learn and teach.
