While You Were Sleeping

Lucy, a charming but shy token seller, spends her evenings home alone with her cat and her holidays working for the Chicago. One day, Peter is beaten by a gang of thugs and tossed onto the tracks. Lucy rescues him from death. While he is comatose in the hospital, a comment she makes at his bedside is misinterpreted, and she then allows his family, who haven’t seen Peter in awhile, to believe that she is his fiancee. Jack starts to realize that he himself has feelings for Lucy. She can spend an unforgettable Christmas with his family. She feels the love of the family for the first time in her life. She declined Peter’s hand because she’s fallen in love with their son, but points out that it’s not Peter, but Jack.

The final scene opens with Lucy on her last day of work at the station. As she accepts tokens from passengers, an engagement ring falls through the toll window. When Lucy looks up, she sees Jack and his family standing. Jack passes the token collection line and proposes to Lucy.

The Kite Runner

This novel describes the process of recovering lost innocence. The story is painfully honest and shockingly nostalgic and beautiful. Amir is a son of very rich family in Afghanistan. Hasan is a son of the family’s servant. Two boys were very close friends. One day, Asef and the gang lynches Hasan.

Amir sees what happens but he runs away from the scene. Amir suffers from the guilt and cannot face Hasan anymore. In order to escape from the guilt, he accuses Hasan for theft and kicks him out of the house. Amir runs away from home to avoid the war. But he seeks redemption from Hasan and returns to Afghanistan, which is under the rule of Taleban. He seeks Hasan’s son, Sorab and by coincidence, he sees Sorab watching a kite fight. He sees that Sorab’s eyes are full of life and finds hope within them. He runs after the kite for Sorab just like Hasan did as a servant and as a friend for him.
