Last year, CWNU came to receive 23 billion won for five years from Local University Specialized Business that the Ministry of Education supports, because 6 CK (Creative Korea) groups were selected. Also, overall, 7 Specialized Business Groups are supported now adding one Specialized Business Group ‘Chemical & Biological Fusion Creative Manpower Training Business Group‘ that CWNU supports itself.
Each Specialized Business Group is propping many things up to students belonging to each one. For example, students belonging to the Smaller Businesses Manpower Training Business which is based on the Group the Faculty of Global Business said that there are many advantages. Above all, students can take classes in the Dept. of International Trade, Dept. of Economics and Dept. of Finance Insurance. They can widely select classes they want to take, regardless of the department because 3 departments are integrated.
Also, students of United Department can get benefits through various programs fostering creative and integrated talent. For example, lectures for certification are being provided and the English lessons help students, too. Moreover, some specialized businesses have set up overseas study and a student exchange program. Because our university’s Overseas Cultural Exploration Program is highly competitive, these programs receive a favorable evaluation among member students.
The future of specialized businesses and students looks bright. However, some unexpected problems may arise due to department integration. A student in an integrated department talked about the problems caused by the department integration, “After the department integration, state-of-the-art equipment was installed for students in lecture rooms. However, because of poor pre-administration and preparation, they wouldn’t work smoothly during lectures. Also the existing curriculum was changed by the integration of more than 2 departments. We have fewer major subjects than last year and we have to apply for more subjects in other departments. It’s not easy to get permission from professors in other departments. First of all, the deficiency of explanation for the changed curriculum makes students in integrated departments confused. That is the biggest problem.”
It is great that CWNU has received the support from the Ministry of Education, but there is still some problems to be resolved. However, because everything can't be always perfect, it is important to compensate the defect if we find some problems. Then we can make the result that satisfies students, the business, and the university.
