CWNU won the first prize for the third consecutive year at the ‘Greenhouse gas and energy target management result of operation contest 2013’ in the national and public university part by reducing 27.8% of greenhouse gas emitted. CWNU received the institution commendation, and facility affairs team leader Kim Jin-gon was praised as a man of merit. CWNU also took a cash prize of 10 million won. .
The facility affairs section of CWNU made a big effort to reduce greenhouse gas. First, they installed photovoltaic power generators and constructed a solar hot water system and made clean energy. Second, they attached a power-saving timer and heating and cooling power-saving sensor to vending machines and water purifiers, and installed a power-saving multi-tab to prevent the waste of unnecessary power. Lastly, they installed a watt-hour meter and water meter, analyzed the data, and reduced the budget.
The facility affairs section’s next goal is saving more energy in CWNU. Next year, they will introduce a new system that allows the temperature to be adjusted by classroom. They are also going to change the whole school’s facilities to energy-saving facilities, repair decrepit machines, and reduce the greenhouse gas further.
Lee Jum-gyun, the team leader of department of electrical engineering in the facility affairs section said, “The first two times, I couldn’t believe that CWNU won the first prize. Now it’s the third time that we won the first prize. It’s a lot of pressure on me. Whether or not we win the first prize, we will do our best to save energy and reduce the greenhouse gas". He added, “I want to thank CWNU students, a lot of the students experienced inconvenience and participated in the energy saving. This is why we could get the first prize. Please keep participating“.
As he said, winning the first prize is the result not only of the effort of the School but also the students. It would be nice if students keep participating to reduce greenhouse gas in real life.
