The Departments of Microbiology and Mechanical Engineering were CWNU were chosen on October 29th to participate in the ‘Specialized Excellent Departments Project’ (department of masterpiece) enforced by the Ministry of Education. The Project has been conducted to supplement local universities’ weak competitiveness and infrastructure compared to metropolitan universities. This Project supplies the chosen universities with educational infrastructure like excellent faculties and educational programs for 5 years and it also provides them with globally competitive enforcement like research and laboratory environment improvement and incentives to attract overseas students. By 2018, CWNU is to be provided with a maximum of 25billion (25000000000) won by the government.
The Department of Microbiology which chosen because it has taken part in various projects for industry such as, the Korean National Research Foundation and BK21 and the results are always measurable and successful. The Department of Mechanical Engineering has fostered tailored business talent through industrial-educational co-operation. Also The Department of Mechanical Engineering has made an effort to encourage students to be recognized for their work and become distinguished business people of the future by participating in various nationally sponsored projects such as LINC business, Industrial Complex Campus Promoting business, Local University Specialization business and Dongnam Technical Research Center.
Changyu Lee, president of CWNU, said, “CWNU has been supported with 25billion won which is the biggest aid in Korean local national•public universities since its 6CK (Creative Korea) groups were chosen for Local University Specialization businesses last July. The Departments of Microbiology and Mechanical Engineering were selected for Specialized Excellent Department. CWNU will do its best to make all departments into masterpieces like the two departments above.”
To this, the Dean of the Microbiology Department said, “I’m so proud that our department has been chosen as CWNU’s department of masterpiece. I hope our students can have various lessons and conduct research with the support fund of this project and this chance would be a big step up in the development of Department of Microbiology and Mechanical Engineering.“
