A Midsummer Night¡¯s Harmony

The CWNU Music Festival came to end with great success by gifting community people with marvelous performances, filling midsummer nights with beautiful classical music concerts.

CWNU held the ¡®2014 Music Festival & Orchestra Academy with Professor Kim Nan-sae¡¯ from June 20-26, providing four free public performances from the opening concert at Seongsan Art Center to the final concert at the 3.15 Art Center.

The musicians were composed of seniors of the Euro-Asian Philharmonic Orchestra, and music majors. Professor Kim acted as director and conductor, and seniors participated as teachers to junior music majors. It was introduced as the first Orchestra Academy in Korea. The orchestra went through many rehearsals together.

The festival was very successful in that all four performances were fully attended, along with special added stages, including a concert in a museum. The Nam June Park concert and the New Media Art Exhibition collaborated art and music, leading to a great bond between the audience, CWNU, and sponsor companies.

Especially notable were Professor Kim¡¯s interesting stories behind the music and the composers, drawing a good response from the audience. In the opening show, he even consented to perform together with juniors who were not in the program. Professor Kim seemed to be a person who loves music so much that he cannot help sharing it with others. His passion could be seen easily.

Cho Younghwan, who attended the performance, said, ¡°I am not used to watching classical concerts since I find it hard to understand. However, I attended because I heard that Professor Kim was famous for his interesting narration of the music.¡± He added, ¡°I hope CWNU continues planning such good concerts.¡±

Professor Kim Nan-sae said, ¡°A concert shows excellent musicianship, but it is impossible to give a great performance unless the all the musicians create a harmony. In light of that, I put all my effort into teaching great musicians to achieve a great harmony in the orchestra.¡± He also said, ¡°The audiences and musicians bonded with one another through great classical music in the summer nights.¡±

Lee Changyu, president of CWNU and the promoter of the concerts, said, ¡°To give back the love we have received from the local community, we planned this event. I hope you remember this great festival with Professor Kim and the musicians for a long time.¡±
