Students applaud as they watch the performances at the Night of the College of Economics and Business |
What goes on in this type of event? First off, students showcase their talent on stage through singing, dancing, and other acts. Also, they perform skits featuring their department¡¯s unique personality and songs. For example, students from the French dept. sang French songs. These performances help build students' stage experiences and strengthen the relationships within the department.
The president of the student body of the Dept. of Philosophy Hwang Dong-wook(07) said he was very pleased to see the students working together as one in preparation for the soiree. They were united by one goal--to have a great event. He added that he hopes for the performances to be better and more interesting next year.
Apart from the events held by individual departments, each college except for the College of Engineering has its own event, such as the Night of Humanities, the Night of Social Sciences, the Night of Economics & Business, the Night of Natural Science, and the Night of Arts. These events showcased the students' talents and skills. The events were aimed at achieving harmony among the departments in each college and brings the entire community together.
Last October, the Night of Social Sciences was held at the basketball court in front of Sarim student hall, and the Night of Humanities, the Night of Natural Science, and the Night of Arts were held last semester. The latest among them was the Night of Economics & Business held last Wednesday, Nov. 16th at Sarim auditorium in Sarim student hall.
The celebrations of the College of Humanities included a representative performance from each department which highlighted the department's distinct characteristics, and was followed by a night of revelry. However, not all students could participate at the college celebrations, but most students could join in the departmental celebrations.
Han Guk-in,student body president of the College of Economics & Business, observed that the events united the students both in the departmental and college level. He added, "The students had a chance to show their passion and have fun."
These celebrations are fun and exciting but something is left to be desired. One obeserver noted the lack of publicity for these events. The only publicity done was the posters on each department. Many students were not aware of the details of the celebration. Also, those kinds of events are mostly led by student body representatives only. There should be a more active student participation and aggressive publicity.
