CWNU museum special exhibition'Ancient of Changwon, history of exchange through the sea and the river'

To commemorate the 30th anniversary of opening, CWNU museum holds a special exhibition from October, 17 to March, 31 of next year. This special exhibition in theme of 'ancient of Changwon, history of exchange through the sea and the river' show the lifestyle of ancient people in Changwon.

In the exhibition are displayed more than 200 ancient remains of Dogye-dong, Namsan, Bangye-dong, Gaeum-dong in Changwon and Jaeun-dong in Jinhae, Jasan-dong in Masan including the complex of the Cheonseon-dong tombs and sedimentary stratum of heap clams in Nae-dong. Changwon is bordered by the gulf of Masan and the Nakdong river. River and sea was useful pathway of human and supplies as well as the center of all production activity. Because of this geographical nature, Changwon is a trading center for various earthenware and there are large scale of iron remain.

This special exhibition is divided into five parts such as dwelling, hunting and gathering, fishing and agriculture, iron production and various irons.

In particular, earthenware is typical remain of dwelling. To excavate earthenware excavators were surveyed the surface. After preliminary research, excavators were picked the place to be earthenware. And at the end of all investigation, before digging, they had to commemorative rites. Afterwards excavators distinguished the surface layer and stared to excavate. And take a rubbing of earthenware using excavated earthenware remains and restore it. Finally display in good environment that adjust the temperature and humidity as much as possible to doesn't its damage.

Especially, duck-shape earthenware has attracted attention at this exhibition. This earthenware selected as one of 20 masterpiece remains by National Museum of Korea and displayed reception of G20 summit. Besides that, iron remains like armors and helmets were display.

Meanwhile CWNU museum started folk museum in 1973, grow to university museun in 1981. Current CWNU museum has collection of more than ten thousand remains at Shinar and Gaya era.
