CWNU's Charity EventSharing the spirit of giving thru donations
CWNU president Lee Chan-gyu shakes hands with Jinhae Rehabilitation Center director Park Myung-won
In celebration of Thanksgiving, CWNU faculty and staff gathered 1.4 million won and gave donations to selected charities: Jinhae Rehabilitation Center in Jinhae-gu and Dream Land, a facility for the disabled in Masanhapbo-gu.
CWNU¡¯s president, Lee Chan-kyu, visited Jinhae Rehabilitation Center and gave donations personally to the director of the center Park Myeong-won, and said "I wish you a plentiful and sufficient holiday. This donation is just the first onset. Many people are becoming more aware of people in need in Changwon and we hope more donations will come."
This year¡¯s donations were Onnuri-gift. Last year, donations were changed from cash to gifts. Onnuri-gifts are sold at affiliated stores in traditional markets all over Korea. This is a good way to help revive the struggling business of traditional markets.
Since 2009, CWNU faculty and staff have been collecting money on national holidays to raise funds for the needy. Holidays are the best time to share their hearts and generosity with the people who are lost and alone. On Lunar New Year, CWNU faculty and staff gave donations worth 2.8 million won to Masan Alzheimer¡¯s sanitarium, Samwon Hyodomaeul in Bukmyon, Haekang maeul, a nursing home for the physically handicapped, and Jinhae Rehabilitation Center.
In the past, CWNU had given cash donations to Dongbowon orphanage, Dongjin Welfare Facilities, and Home of Angel Facility for Disabled and Gifted Children. A CWNU staff representative said, "We hope all children have dreams for their future. We support all children¡¯s dreams." He also added, "Many CWNU students attend many volunteer programs such as study room, cultural experience, special activity and advice program for the Changwon Children Center. Please support their volunteering effort and surely, they will develop a warm heart. And we will work hard to produce welfare professionals."
The CWNU staff not only cheer children up with their gifts but also visit nursing homes such as Sungsimwon and Dongjin. They said, ¡°Our economic situation is becoming worse, but despite this, we hope to help each other and together, overcome this economic crisis.¡±
