Etiquette to be observed in library reading rooms
Students use library reading rooms more and more often to prepare for exams. This is a time when students are high-strung because of mid-term exams. When you use reading rooms, you should try not to harm or disturb other people. So today, I will introduce some information about the library including reading room hours of operation, regulations to observe when you use the rooms, and additional things to consider during examination.
First, the most reading rooms are open from 6 a.m. to 10:50 p.m. Reading rooms are open all year round except Lunar New Year¡¯s Day and Korean Thanksgiving Day. Reading rooms consist of the first to sixth room, and the reading room for graduates. So there are seven reading rooms in the library. Two reading rooms are open for 24 hours. These are the fifth and the sixth reading rooms on the 4th floor. They are open for 24 hours in rotation, the fifth reading room remaining open on odd days and the sixth reading room remaining open on even days. Furthermore, the third and fourth reading rooms are the rooms for laptop computers.
Let¡¯s see the regulations for using the reading rooms. These are written on paper in the rooms, or posted on reading room doors.
Observe one seat per one – this means that one should not occupy several seats. If one occupies several seats, seats may not be available for others who want to sit. This causes problems for other students. And ¡®No carry food¡¯ – this means that people are not allowed to bring in any food except drinks such as water or tea. This includes even small snacks like chocolate or candy, because the reading room should be silent, so even small eating sounds disturb others.
And let¡¯s see some changes to the regulations during the examination period. During examinations, both the fifth and the sixth reading rooms are open for 24 hours. And the Library Student Committee (L.S.C) operates a memo-writing system that reading room users should follow when they leave their seats for a moment due to exams, classes, and meals. Students write a memo with using a form and attach it to their desks before they leave. The form for the memo includes ¡®departure time ~ arrival time¡¯ and the reason for leaving your seat. The time limit of the memo is three hours. If there is no memo when you leave your seat, members of the L.S.C tidy up those seats.
Lastly, if you need a help about using the library, visit the office of L.S.C. on the first floor of the library. They also offer various kinds of services.
