Mentoring program attracts attention
A recent survey shows that about two out of ten university students have no interaction with their professors.
To improve the teacher-student interaction, CWNU initiated the 'Mentoring Program: Teachers Meet Students'.
The program not only aims to connect professors and students but to encourage personal growth.

This program will help to form upright personality among the students and foster better relations between
teachers and students. On this account, CWNU¡¯s Mentoring Program hopes to create a strong bond between
the mentor and the mentee.

Through the Mentoring Program, one professor teamed up with 15 students. The professor conducts a weekly
regular meeting, monitors the students¡¯ progress, and helps in mapping out student's career path, voluntary service,
and learning activities.

So far, 25 professors and 366 students have participated in this program from September of last year.
The program allowed them to build a strong affection and facilitated learning through regular meetings and
a variety of activities such as orientation, school workshop, training, and hiking.

'Danbi Team¡¯ served the community by organizing projects for elders who live alone. Their projects include home
improvement and emotional support. Another team named ¡®United Changwon City Historic Sites Exploration Team¡¯
organized tours historic sites and clean-up campaign. Both teams were well-received by the local community and the
student members were satisfied with their contribution. Choi In-hye (Dept. of Child Development & Family Studies, 08),
a member of 'Danbi Team' said, "Through the Mentoring Program, I had a good experience doing voluntary work
in social welfare. And I've become very close to my professor, as he has given me a lot of advice and attention.
Prof. Bae Dong-sik (School of Nano & Advanced Materials Engineering) who participated in the program as a mentor
said "I don¡¯t have the opportunity to get together with students. But through this program I can find out about
the students¡¯ situation, and then I can give them some advice.

The satisfaction rate among the student participants is 82.7%, and 83.6% of them would like to recommend
the program to their friends.
