Recently, a social messenger group chat room defending Lee Eun-hae, a suspect in the Gapyeong Valley murder case, has emerged, sparking controversy among Netizens. On the 11th, Kakao-Talk open chat rooms, titled, "Lee Eun-hae's Fan Room," "Gapyeong Valley Lee Eun-hae's Fan Room," and, "Eun-hae's Grace, Lee Eun-hae's Fan Club," appeared one after another in the Kakao-Talk open chat. In a group chat room where about 30 of her fans participated, there were posts such as, "Hate sin, but don't hate people," "Crimes don't matter, faces matter, and everything is forgiven if you are pretty." In the chat room in question, comments defending the suspect Lee Eun-hae were continuously posted, such as, "Honestly, if Lee Eun-hae did something wrong, it would be too pretty." In addition, there were conversations among participants in the chat room that included topics, such as, "I don't understand why the victim was gaslighted," "Isn't it all the victim himself?" and "The victim was at fault unconditionally." There was even an Internet user impersonating the suspect Lee Eun-hae, asking for help in an attempted escape from the authorities. When some Netizens, angered by the behavior, entered the group chat room and criticized the chat room founders and participants, participants in the existing chat room fiercely defended the suspect, Lee Eun-hae, justifying their actions, saying, "If you're not prettier than Lee Eun-hae, you don't deserve to speak ill of us and her."
Lee Eun-hae, along with her accomplice Cho Hyun-soo, are leading suspects in the so-called, "Gapyeong Valley Murder Case", who allegedy killed Lee's husband, Yoon, who could not swim, by diving in Yongso Valley, Gapyeong-gun, Gyeonggi-do on June 30, 2019. Lee Eun-hae is suspected of inducing her husband to drown at a fishing spot in Yongin, Gyeonggi Province, and attempting to kill Yoon by feeding him food mixed with blowfish sardines and blood, at a pension in Yangyang County, Gangwon Province. In addition, Lee Eun-hae was under further investigation into her possible involvement in two more suspicious deaths related to the demise of her former boyfriends, the: "Thailand Pattaya Snorkeling Case", and the, "Incheon Traffic Accident Death Case”. However, Lee and her accomplice Cho, were questioned by prosecutors on Dec. 13 last year, and since then, have been on the run for about four months, neglecting to attend the second investigation the next day.
Regarding the controversy over the formation of "Lee Eun-hae's Fan Chat Room," Oh Yoon-sung, a Professor of Police Administration at Soonchunhyang University, said, "People who want to show their presence seem to be doing so by relying on anonymity on the Internet. Those who post comments mocking the victim in the chat room express the sadism they had in their hearts without anyone knowing, which is an obvious secondary offense." The bereaved families cannot hide their anger and despondency over the formation of a community that advocates Lee Eun-hae, a criminal, who is currently fleeing from punishment after being entangled in three murders. Public opinion to defend criminals and justify their cases is a discourtesy that can victimize the bereaved families again. Even on the Internet, where you can borrow anonymous power, you should not commit an act of abandoning your ethical consciousness for the purpose of simple amusement.
