Tell Us Who Your Favorite YouTuber Is!

“YouTube” is a video sharing service where users can create their own profile, upload videos, watch, gives likes and comment on videos. The range of users is very wide regardless of age and gender.

A considerable amount of people use YouTube these days. At the beginning of this year, YouTube Korea reported that the number of YouTube's global users was about 1.9 billion in just one month; last November. Also, it was about 31 million only in Korea during the same period.1] This news shows YouTube is a popular platform, and it seems like that it is a big part of our lives. There is numerous content on YouTube. For example, food, games, make-up, films, dramas, and music are popular topics among viewers.

The videos are made by “YouTubers.” YouTubers are putting a lot of time on coming up with interesting content. There are a lot of YouTubers in the world as well.

On May 15, 2019, an online survey was carried out to find out how Changwon National University (CWNU) students use YouTube. In the survey, 22 CWNU students answered three questions. The first question was: “How many hours do you use YouTube a day?” The pie chart below shows the result of the survey.

According to the survey, 27.3% said they use it 1-2 hours and another 27.3% said they use it 2-3 hours. 9.1% said they use even more than three hours a day. However, no students answered that they never use Youtube.

The second question was “What content do you like to watch?” The largest percentage is Mukbang, followed by variety show, make-up, game, music, etc. Mukbang is a live online audiovisual broadcast in which a host eats large amounts of foods while interacting with their audience.[2] Mukbang started in Korea but it has gone viral around the world. You can even easily find Mukbang videos recorded by foreigners. Likewise, YouTubers are having an influence on one another by giving ideas for content.

They were asked the last question: “Who is your favorite YouTuber?” Here are some answers to the question.

• YangPang

Her videos are different from other programs on TV in terms of content. Also, they are not so long, so I can watch them anytime even when I don’t have lots of time.

• Lee Yeong-ho –‘Lee Yeong-ho FlaSh’

I have enjoyed a game called StarCraft since I was in middle school. Its popularity has declined because some new games like PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds, Overwatch, and League of Legends came out. Therefore it was hard to find videos which are dealing with StarCraft in media, but I could bring my memories back by watching his videos. Besides, he teaches new strategies to win the game. That is really interesting.

• PONY –‘PONY Syndrome’

Her videos are well edited, so it is clear what she wants to show us.

• Vox

It is a channel from Germany. I like the vibes that its videos are giving me. In my opinion, the way they are filmed and edited is artistic.

• tzuyang and Shugi

I was surprised by their videos. They eat large amount of foods, and it makes me hungry.

Apart from these four channels mentioned above, the other respondents commented on the channels of Eva, RISABAE, tweety, KINDA COOL, SIYEON HAN, Yoo’s Beauty, Cooking tree, G Movie, and so on.
