Link Your School Life with LINC+!

On April 10, 2019, we reported that “Changwon National University (CWNU) was selected for the second step of LINC+ business.” It seems to be a huge event for CWNU. Do you know what LINC+ is?

LINC+ stands for Leaders in INdustry-university Cooperation. LINC+ which is run by the Ministry of Education with National Research Foundation of Korea (NRF) supports human resource training by giving subsidies to chosen universities for 5 years; from 2017 to 2021. It is the government's largest financial support project for universities, which will cost a total of 1.63 trillion won. The goals of LINC+ are cultivating local industry, leading human resources, and supporting community development and job creation for the youth. There are two steps to get subsidies from the government. During the first step, the government supported 75 universities that applied for the LINC+ project for two years; from 2017 to 2018, and according to the achievements of each university, they decide if they will keep supporting them or not. Then, during the second step, 75 schools that were chosen receive money for three years; from 2019 to 2021. Here, the “75” includes 14 schools that newly applied for support as well as 61 schools that passed the first step.

On April 18, 2017, CWNU was selected for the first step of the project. Since then, CWNU have carried out ‘SMART 3C type human resource training; Competency, Convergence, Challenge’, ‘LINC+ mileage’, and so on. The “Mileage system” encourages the participation of professors, students, and companies in establishing an educational system which is well connected to industrial-academic cooperation. You will get a gift card based on the amount of mileage you’ve got from activities. It will be continued this year too, but there is no information yet. You should check regularly on the CWNU website for updates.

Also, on April 10, 2019, CWNU got the opportunity to be part of the project for three more years with subsidies worth 10 billion as a result of meeting the expectations of the first step.

Choi Hae-bum, the Head of the University, emphasized “We were selected for the second part of the project, and I am sure that CWNU can be the best university leading LINC+ project with successful performances.” Park Kyung-Hun who is the head of LINC+ of CWNU said “We will focus on the development of community by building up the sustainable cooperative relationship between CWNU and the community during the second step.”

There are a lot of programs at CWNU; Career and employment camp, job interview coaching, 3D printing education as 4th industrial revolution leader training program, capstone design, supporting the operation of qualifications or curriculum related to major courses by non-science and engineering departments, etc. “Capstone design” is a course that supports students in developing their creativity, teamwork, and leadership to solve social problems based on what they learned for their first two years in school. Students who are a junior or senior can take this course. Moreover, it is one of the options of requirements for graduation. CWNU international students and Korean students of departments that are participating in LINC+ programs can take part in all of these programs.

Why don’t you have a special experience and challenge yourself by joining some LINC+ programs? It might help you make your dreams come true. You can get more information about LINC+ on the website: http://lincplus.changwon.ac.kr/
