We, Changwon National University, received the Minister of Environment award in the Competition for results of managing Greenhouse Gases Energy for National public universities and university hospitals nationwide public sector, held by the Ministry of Environment in 2013. In 2016, our university verified the energy saving initiative by introducing Cool Roof paint. Cool Roof paint is a paint that keeps the building from absorbing hot heat. This project was selected and has awarded Changwon National University with a scholarship for three years. Nevertheless, Changwon National University has been neglecting the use of plastic, which is the basis of Greenhouse Gas reduction, because there’s no policy for that. Due to this reason listed above.

Plastic takes hundreds of years to decompose and pollutes the earth. An environmental hormone exists within it, meaning it affects both humans and crops. When we incinerate the plastic from the umbrella, dioxin, a carcinogenic substance, is emitted and has an adverse effect on the production of greenhouse gases. The plastic cover of the umbrella can be easily ripped and when we try to use the plastic covers as a fuel, the mixture of impurities from the rain and water on the umbrella don’t allow us to recycle them. plastic used for the umbrella are harder to recycle than those normal plastic we use daily. Thus, we should pay closer attention to umbrella covers.

We use a plastic umbrella cover every rainy day so that no water drops on the floor. The picture above shows how frequently umbrella covers are abandoned. The ideal solution is to install a rainwater remover for umbrellas and absorbent carpet. Umbrellas with rainwater removers are to be shaken out by putting an umbrella with rainwater for a while, and the other is a type of rainwater remover which is shaved when an umbrella is passed through a gap with a brush attached. In order to reduce the use of an umbrella cover, Changwon National University will need to introduce an umbrella rainwater remover.
