Start Praising Yourself

It's a tough world. People are pressed for time and busy enduring endless competition. The things that one can receive from intense competition are just jealousy for others, incompetence, and depression. All of these cause feelings of uselessness and affect our self-esteem.

A few days ago, I talked with my friend about getting a job. She opened her heart out to me. She desponded of her future. "I am frustrated that my academic career, ability, and appearance are lower than others," she said. I replied, "Don't underestimate yourself. You are a greater person than you think." She looked like she didn't proplery know her potential and she held her ability with little esteem. When I bring her to mind, she is the person who can express her thoughts well and is a person with great ideas. Why can't people be generous to themselves?

Actually, I was not generous to myself. When others make mistakes, I can forgive them easily. On the other hand, if I make a mistake, I suffer and feel regret for a long time. When I was a 3rd grader in high school, my homeroom teacher made her students start a 'Self-praise Project'. It was very simple. Write one of your strengths, once a day. At first, I thought, “what is my strength,” for a long time. I also felt shy to write it. However, I could recognize that I had changed a lot. Now, I don’t blame myself or feel useless.

When a person is complimented, the region of the brain that feels pleasure is stimulated. Then, the secretion of serotonin and dopamine are increased. After that, a person can feel relaxed. If you start praising yourself, you can concentrate on yourself. It helps you realize that you are a valuable person. When you keep doing the 'Self-praise Project', you can see changes in yourself. I am a starter and a supporter of changing. Make a self praising note, now!
