‘Say what you need to say, say what you need to say…’ is the refrain of the song, ‘SAY’, by John Mayer. This song was used during the end credits of the movie “The Bucket List”, and makes me remember by impressions of the movie again. Last vacation all I did was study because there's only one semester left before graduation. So I was sick and tired of my monotonously repetitive daily life. Meanwhile, “The Bucket List” was an excellent stimulant. Bucket List means a list of things to accomplish before one's death. Its etymology was derived from kick the bucket (to die) + list; hence “list of things to do before you die”. It was coined by screenwriter Justin Zackham in his screenplay for the film “The Bucket List”; articles about the movie are the earliest known uses. Everyone may think of the bucket list at least once without thinking deeply on death. Also, people can easily search for information on the bucket list online. In the movie, an automobile mechanic, Carter, and billionaire, Edward, meet for the first time in the hospital after both men have been diagnosed with terminal lung cancer. They both get to be friends sharing a ward, and they decide to implement the wish list written by Carter. Then, they go skydiving together, drive a Shelby Mustang, fly over the North Pole and so on to find the joy in their life. This movie makes people think about their death and lives’ aims again. I think abstract aims of people can turn into realistic goals through death, and when we don’t think about our death at all or regard it as a remote event, we are submissive to our monotonous everyday life. In other words, we will just spend each day, unaware of the preciousness of one day. Nobody wants to live so meaninglessly. Aren’t you sacrificing your today to the expectation that you will be able to do what you want to do later or when the tide turns? Time and tide wait for no man. We tend to forget these facts too quickly. If we aren’t a bit more aggressive in our life, our time will have been stolen. Why don’t you make your bucket list thinking about what you really want to do before you die?
