CWNU President in the middle of the front row and faculties pose after the inaugration ceremony

On July 24, the CWNU Specialized Business Group held an inauguration ceremony at the International Hotel. About 300 CWNU officials attended the ceremony, including president Lee Chankyu, the head of the Specialized Business Group, professors of participating departments, the head of the School Support Association, and Gang Giyoon, the president of the Alumni Association.

President Lee Chankyu officially launched the Specialized Business Group, and then granted an achievement award. He stressed, “CWNU has proven itself as a specialized university by receiving the 13th largest amount of funds among 108 universities, and there are as many as six selected business groups, which ranks 8th on the list."

To help new businesses succeed, he added, "CWNU will exert every effort to cultivate specialized human resources leading to local industry and economic development."

CWNU will receive 23 billion won for five years from the Ministry of Education because 6 CK (Creative Korea) groups were selected. ‘CK’ refers to a business that strives to improve the structure of universities by establishing a foundation of specialization, enabling universities to focus on their strongest fields in relation to the local community’s demands. Since 2014, CK has given 203.1 billion won to local universities (CK-Ⅰ), and 54.6 billion won to metropolitan universities (CK-Ⅱ). The business will invest a total of 1.2 trillion won over five years.

Related to this, The Ministry of Education encourages universities to cut enrollment by 2017 to prepare for a reduction in the number of students.

Under the plan, CWNU has been undergoing systematic integration of academic departments, and personnel reduction since last September. For example, the Department of Microbiology will integrate with the Department of Biochemistry & Health Science.

Meanwhile, due to extensive mergers and reductions, the president of Dong-Eui University resigned from his position after being left out in the cold.
