On May 8, 2013, Documentary director Kim Sung-hwan gave a lecture at CWNU. A CWNU professor also gave a lecture about healing. Many students, professors of CWNU and Students of Lifelong Institute listened to the lecture. Mr. Kim talked about his experiences and his documentary. His first documentary, Forsythia was released in 1993. Forsythia is a movie about movement and energy-formation. It is a true story. His second documentary was titled The Dong River Flows, and it came out in 1999. This documentary was about people who lived near the Dong River. Mr. Kim shot this documentary himself. Since spring, he has been helping Dong River residents with farming and community work. He said most people think the Dong River is beautiful. However, the inhabitants think of the Dong River as an obstacle. Next, he released The Dream of Jong-tae Kim in 2003. In May, 1980, Gwang-ju citizens and students were brutally killed by soldiers under martial law. He made this documentary because he wanted to comfort their spirits and bring attention to the atrocity. This work received many awards. Then, he released Our Mountain in 2003. The purpose of this documentary was to improve relationships between people and nature. The story is about people helping each other to save a small lonely mountain. The message was that helping others improved relationships among people, and people and nature became one. Now, he is producing a new documentary.
After introducing his documentaries, students interested Mr. Kim‘s field asked questions, and debated. This lecture was a useful experience for students. Mr. Kim said that he wants us to take many trips and gain experience from them.
