Interested in a Working Holiday?
On March 20, 2013 at 3:00, a Working Holiday presentation was given in the Central Laboratory for Science & Technology. Many students who had been interested in a working holiday joined in.
A working holiday is a chance to experience foreign cultures and lifestyles, travel, employment, and languages at the same time. 15 countries, including Australia and Canada made a contract with Korea. Most Koreans go to Australia and Canada. Anyone from 18 to 30 years old can apply for a working holiday. Also, the period of employment and language education are different in each country. For example, the employment and language education period is limited to 12 months and 4 months respectively, in Australia.
Thorough preparation is needed for going on a working holiday. If you take a working holiday, you should choose a country and region with purpose. If you want to study a language, you should only prepare for it so you don¡¯t waste time and energy. You choose the date of entry and the length of stay. Next, you should plan your budget and apply for a visa. Be careful because the time for applications and the time required are different for each country. Finally, you need to gather information about the country and their languages. This will greatly enhance your experience.
Time was given to listen to the experiences of people coming back from Australia and Canada. A female who went to Australia said, ¡°If you can¡¯t speak a foreign language, don¡¯t feel discouraged! I memorized five sentences every day and spoke to foreigners, no matter the subject. I was perceived better because of it. Another woman who went to Canada told the students¡±, ¡°I want to say to people who are hesitant about going on a working holiday, just go! Regret after doing something is self-reflection, but not doing it is true regret. Do it, reflect and grow up.¡±
The Working Holiday presentation started a fire in the minds of many students who participated. It seemed like many students were eager to go overseas on a working holiday. There were also studying abroad language presentations in Busan BEXCO and Seoul COEX this month. I hope that many students had interest in them.
