On Thursday April 19th, the Department of Music held its 32nd Freshmen Concert in the Concert Hall of Building 61 at CWNU. The purpose of the concert was to allow freshmen in the department to experience their first concert as musicians, and to display their developing talents on stage. This concert also celebrated the department’s new piano, which was made by Steinway & Sons, and is worth 200 million won. The piano is a masterpiece, so professors can lead students to quality education. This is a chance to improve CWNU’s status in music.
The concert began with a celebratory message from CWNU’s President Lee Chan-gyu, and was comprised of performances by many freshmen of various talents, including piano, violin, composition, soprano, French horn, contrabass and trombone. The freshmen aren’t professional musicians, just students, so of course they made some mistakes. But they seemed as confident and practiced as professionals because of the encouragement and help of their professors and seniors.
Many people attended to watch the concert and encourage the students, including professors, students, and other guests. One of the students, Jung Ji-hyun (Dept. of Social Science) said, “I didn’t know much about the College of Arts, but this concert is a very good chance to promote their hidden talents. I think they have outstanding potential, so I’m very happy about CWNU’s bright future in the arts.” And Moon Tae-young (Dept. of Biology) said, “Music can give positive energy, such as happiness when you are depressed, comfort when you have failed, and so on. So I want CWNU’s Dept. of Music to increase its number of concerts for Changwon citizens.”김대곤 rlaeorhs21@nate.com
