Students compete in the Global Golden Bell
Participants in the Global Golden Bell solve questions.

International and Korean students participated in the Global Golden Bell on Saturday, May 28th, 2011 in the auditorium of Sarim Students Hall between 11 a.m. and 1 p.m.

Last year, this program began as part of the Education Strengthening business. During the first semester of this year, the program is a part of the International Affairs¡¯ one-to-one program. The program is operated to help short-term exchange students enjoy life in Korea and school life. The enrolled Korean students and the exchange students are given projects as part of the one-to-one program. The Global Golden Bell is one part of the entire program.

Adjusted to the aims of the one-to-one program, the new purposes of the Global Golden Bell are, first, to build a closer relationship between full-time students and exchange students, and second, by answering questions about Korean culture and history, the exchange students get a chance to verify their knowledge about Korea. Third, through explanations from the enrolled students as interpreters, students with poor Korean skills have one more chance to think and speak about Korea naturally.

The Global Golden Bell participants were selected in the order of submission of their applications at the International Education Institute. (Applications were distributed at International Affairs.)

The students solved questions in relation to Korean culture, history, current events, people, arts, language and CWNU.

In the first phase, the full-time students and exchange students solved the questions together. After that, the selected representative from the first phase solved questions for the second phase. The winners came from this group. For this year¡¯s Golden-Bell, 41 teams composed of students from China, Russia, Mongolia and various other countries participated.

Through this quiz, the exchange students can acquire more interests, and for the full-time students, this program is a reminder to take better care of our homeland and schools. Also, the exchange students¡¯ attention to their alma mater is increased so that this is a great chance for CWNU to develop as a leading global campus. Because this type of this program is usually hard to find, all the exchange and full-time students were satisfied and had a great time.

As Soyol-¥årdene, a Mongolian graduate student (Dept. of Korean Language & Literature, 10) who participated in the program, said, ¡°Through this program, I was happy to share greetings with the other exchange students and Korean students and have a better relationship with them. Also, I have a better sense about Korean culture and history so that it¡¯s been such a valuable time. Most of all, all the friends were hanging out, and I had usually felt lonely studying abroad, so I¡¯m pleased to have many more friends after this program¡±.

The prizes for this quiz were bicycles and coupons, along with mirrors, bookstands and jewelry boxes that reflect Korean tradition.
