Prof. Lee Chan-gyu, the newly-elected CWNU president

The CWNU presidential election was held on March 9 (Wed). Candidate number 6 Prof. Lee Chan-gyu(Dept. of Metallurgy and Materials Engineering School of Nano & Advanced Materials Engineering) was elected amidst a very tough competition.

Prof. Lee said ”I thank and respect the decision made by the CWNU community. I am the first president elected from the College of Engineering so I feel deeply responsible about that and I will do my best ”.

Many Changwon residents have high expectations from the only national university in the megacity Changwon,a city with over 10 million inhabitants. But the local community may still have a negative view of CWNU. Prof Lee pledges to change their negative view. First, students will strengthen their competitiveness in terms of skills such as foreign language, etc,. thus promoting more creative talent. Second, the university will set up a contact system for all university professors and local community. For example, conducting a joint research with Changwon city or a local company.

Regarding international affairs, students will be more global through studying abroad, and will broaden their horizons through varied cultural experiences. We will promote cultural exchanges among nations with Europe, America, Indonesia, the Philippines, Russia, Vietnam, etc. At present, we have established a strong cultural exchange program with China. From now on, we should expand our cultural exchange programs and make them more comprehensive.

Finally, CWNU will produce many exceptionally talented people to work in the local community. CWNU should exert its best efforts to nurture and develop the best and brightest people

Main project

1. Conduct study-abroad programs in English-speaking countries for a year.

2. Attract National policy project actively and secure government support funds of more than 10 billion won every year.

3. Expand welfare facilities for faculty and improve the welfare of female faculty.

4. Extend campus and maintain an environment-friendly green campus.

5. Establish a "Track result research committee”.

6. Actively initiate the establishment of CWNU medical college.
