A journey to the world of classical music with Gum Nan-Se

CWNU in cooperation with Kyungnam Bank sponsored a classical music concert entitled ¡°Classical Concert with a Story¡± at Sungsan Art Hall¡¯s grand theater on May 12. The Eurasian Philharmonic Orchestra (EAPO) performed under the conduction of Gum Nan-Se, renowned conductor and current musical director of EAPO.

Under the skillful baton of Gum Nan-Se, the Eurasian Philharmonic Orchestra performed popular classical musical pieces such as P. Tchaikovsky¡¯s Swan Lake, P. Sarasate¡¯s Zigenuerweisen, E. Elgar¡¯s Pomp and Circumstance March, G. Bizet¡¯s Chanson du Treador from Opera, etc. The concert also featured the gifted talents of Hwang Se-Mi who played the marimba, and baritone Gong Byung-Woo. A popular feature of the concert was Gum explaining some of the pieces to the audience. His stories made the audience understand and appreciate the seemingly difficult and obscure world of classical music.

In October last year, Gum Nan-Se visited the university to have a lecture where he promised to hold a concert for CWNU students and staff. He kept his promise and held a concert that was funded by Kyungnam Bank. The audience was composed of CWNU students and faculty members who got tickets free of charge by making reservations online or via telephone. They were provided the chance to listen to Gum¡¯s commentary and experience the artistic performance.

As conductor, Gum¡¯s charisma and witticism, along with the perfect harmony played by the orchestra, brightened the stage and delighted the audience. Gum Nan-Se and the orchestra indulged the enthusiastic audience by playing two encores.
