On April 21, the '1st Offshore Plant Festival' took place at Changwon Exhibition Convention Center(CECO). This festival was held to mark the 'Human Resource Development Center for Offshore Plant Engineering(HOPE)'s first year. The purposes of festival were togive basic information about offshore plant engineering and try to find proper education courses. About 400 people participated in the festival including executive directors of three large enterprises and the director of a planning bureau of Changwon city. This festival was supported by the Ministry of Education, Science and Technology, the National Research Foundation of Korea, Gyeongnam province, and Changwon city.
At first, HOPE Center held an academic lecture with the guest speaker Subrata Kumar Bhattacharya, a professor of IIT university of India. He explained the 'Coupled hull-tether dynamics of deepwater mini-tension leg platforms : Theory vs Experiments'.
Secondly, the offshore plant parties presented their respective subjects. Kim Jeong-Goon, executive manager of Samsung Heavy Industries Co. Ltd, talked about the bright prospect of offshore plant. Bae Jae-Ryu, a technical expert of Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering Co. Ltd, talked about core technology. Han Young-Il explained the 'proper education in offshore plant engineering'. Jung Hee-Phan, director of a planning bureau of Changwon city, presented the 'relationship between with Changwon city and offshore plant'. Sung Hwal-Kyung, the chief of HOPE center, explained the 'offshore plant education of CWNU'.
Thirdly, the center held an education forum about education courses for becoming a desirable human character and a competent person. Kim Jeong-Goon said 'Foreign language skill is deemed essential to leading the future offshore plant market. Through self-improvement, please enhance the value of you."
After luncheon, the festival was divided into two sections. One was 'Capstone design exhibition' and the other was 'industry-university cooperation research topics presentation' The capstone design represents creative engineering design.
Cho Chul-Woo, professor of Control & Instrumentation Engineering, said "Students' abilities are becoming better. It is necessary that each class of society show interests and encouragement to prosper talented students."
